Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Lent at the Border Town Parishes March 15, 2026

Celebrated at St. Patrick's Church

119 N. Market St.

Momence, IL 60954

During this year's Masses for the Season of Lent, Fr. Pete focuses on NINE individuals whose lives were/are marginalized by others in the faith, yet made significant contributions to the faith despite these struggles. Fr. Pete parallels each of these eight individuals with the eight "levels" of Holy Orders that one would approach (Prior to the Second Vatican Council) on their way to being ordained a deacon, priest and bishop:

The Minor Order of Porter (Ash Wednesday): St. André Bessette

The Minor Order of Lector (First Sunday of Lent): St. Bede the Venerable

The Minor Porter of Exorcist (Second Sunday of Lent): St. Benedict

The Minor Order of Acolyte (Third Sunday of Lent): St. Tarcisius

The Major Order of Sub-Deacon (Fourth Sunday of Lent): St. Vincent de Paul

The Major Order of Deacon (Fifth Sunday of Lent): St. Stephen

The Major Order of Priesthood (Palm Sunday): Venerable Pope Pius XII

The Major Order of Bishop (Holy Thursday): Joseph Cardinal Xen of Hong Kong

Summary of Holy Orders (Good Friday): St. Polycarp

Today's homily focuses on St. Vincent de Paul (1581-1660), whose work with the poor has become an inspiration for those who work in food pantries, homeless shelters and all those concerned about the needs of the poor. Both the Vincentians and the Daughters of Charity dedicate their lives to following the example of St. Vincent, which is evident in our local communities and their support of our local Food Pantries, Harbor House (for abused families) and the Centro Vilaseca Daycare Center in Joliet, IL.
